Trusting God When
Life Feels Uncertain

When the market closed early that week, Chike sat on the stoop and watched the sunset bake the dust into gold. The news had been relentless: prices rising, contracts delayed, a neighbor’s small business shuttered. Each headline felt like a tightening rope around his plans. He had worked hard, prayed quietly, then wondered whether trust was enough when the future blurred at the edges.

That evening he settled with a cup of tea and a small loaf of bread trying to get something in his stomach. A quiet voice whispered to him, “We’ll take the next step together.” And that calm voice felt like a lamp in a dark room. In that quiet Jesus’ words came back to Chike: “Do not be anxious about your life… your heavenly Father knows that you need them” (Matthew 6:25, 32). Trusting God, Chike remembered, begins with receiving a steadying presence more than with solving every problem.

Weeks later, job oppourtunities sprang up; a friend sent a message connecting Chike to a supplier. These small, sometimes ordinary acts unfolded like a chain of help. Proverbs reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). Trust does not mean passive waiting; it means choosing God over panic and partnering with the practical steps before you.

There were still sleepless nights. Chike would stare at the ceiling and whisper, “Lord, I don’t know what’s next.” In those moments he clung to Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Being still did not remove the uncertainty; it placed it in the hands of One who sees farther than we do. Trust often grows in the tension between worry and surrender.

As weeks unfolded, Chike learned to rehearse God’s faithfulness: recalling small mercies, thanking God for unexpected help, and praying for wisdom to act. Apostle Paul’s encouragement became his compass: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Trusting God reshaped Chike’s steps, less driven by fear, more guided by daily faithfulness.

If life feels uncertain to you today, start small. Name one worry and hand it to God in prayer. Look for one practical next step and take it. Read and hold close this promise: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). Let that shepherding be more than words, let it steady your feet.

Prayer:

Lord, when uncertainty presses in, help me trust You. Calm my fears, show me the next step, and remind me of Your faithful provision. Amen.
